Billboard Fridays: ScHoolboy Q feat. BJ The Chicago Kid - Studio

A Iggy Azalea continua na liderança com Fancy mas o destaque da semana vai pro ScHoolboy Q com Studio. Pra quem não sabe o Schoolboy Q faz parte da Top Dawg Entertainment (ou TDE), gravadora da California da qual fazem parte também o Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, Isaiah Rashad e a SZA. Na minha opinião ela é a gravadora mais consistente que existe no rap hoje em dia então é sempre bom ver que ela está se dando bem nas paradas de rap. Studio é o quarto single de Oxymoron, o album que o Q lançou esse ano, e o interessante da TDE é que eles geralmente não tentam fazer algo contra o que estabelecido como popular para fazer algo de qualidade. Geralmente eles pegam o que já se espera de alguns subgeneros do rap e dão o twist unico deles, com produção e letras de ótima qualidade, tendo como resultado uma musica acessivel e inovadora ao mesmo tempo. Studio é mais ou menos assim mas esse twist que eu disse que sempre há não se concretiza tão bem nesse som. Ele é aquele mesmo som tradicional feito sobre relacionamento que a maioria dos albuns de rap tem. Nem por isso ele é ruim, é uma musica bem massinha produzida pelo Swiff D e com ótimas letras do Q, só não tem aquele toque especial que eu espero das musicas da TDE. Iggy Azalea is still in the lead with Fancy but this week's highlight goes out to Schoolboy Q with Studio. For those who ain't know, Schoolboy Q is a part of Top Dawg Entertainment, a California-based label that is also the house of Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, Isaiah Rashad and SZA. In my opinion it's the best rap label in the world right now, with every release from every artist having a quality much above the norm. Studio is the fourth single from Oxymoron, the album that Q released this year. What's interesting about TDE for me is not that they try to do something revolutionary and very different from what's happening on rap right now. What they usually do is taking what's established on some rap subgenres and giving it a twist, all with great lyrics and production, making it something accessible and of great quality too. Studio is more or less like that, even though the twist isn't really there. Not that the song is bad, it's actually pretty nice, but it's exactly the kind of relationship song you expect from most rap albuns. The Swiff D production is great and Q's lyrics are dope too, so you shouldn't be too disappointed by the song, even without the TDE twist. The video is pretty cliche too, with Q chilling at the studio or getting it on with some hot girls. If you wanna check it along with this week's top 25, click above.
